New to ResNet
Welcome to the ResNet Symposium, where newcomers are soon old friends.
Starting with the first conference at Stanford in 1994, the ResNet Symposium has annually ‘connected’ approximately 300 administrators and specialists who plan, purchase, implement and support residential (ResNet) information technologies at over 150 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and abroad. These technologies include in-room networking, residence-based computing clusters, multimedia, and distance learning. Associated with these technologies are support issues and information security concerns.
Participants in the ResNet Symposium come from academic institutions at many different levels of residential technologies -- some schools may have had their networks in place and are asking "What's next?" while other schools may be just starting out. This mix of experience augments the information-sharing which occurs through presentations, panel discussions, roundtable conversations, and, most often through the casual and social atmosphere of the conference. Several presentation tracks are offered, allowing participants to either focus directly on their own concerns, or to get a taste of different ideas and programs.
The ResNet Symposium is the only conference of its kind which deals exclusively with residential networking technologies within academic institutions. The conference is always held at a college or university, and most participants choose to stay in a residence hall so they get to ‘live’ their clients’ experience for one week a year. The conference is also traditionally casual. We recognize that a lot of the information-sharing occurs during friendly conversations and social events – food is a great way to draw people together. The ResNet Symposium has become an annual event for many of the participants. One favorite tradition at the opening dinner every year is the ‘stand up, sit down’ event which demonstrates just how many people keep coming back to the ResNet Symposium, year after year. Beyond the professional connections, the ResNet symposium provides lasting collegial friendships.
We will be having a dedicated new comers session on June 21st from 6:00 PM to 7:00PM in the Student Union Building (SUB) room 103. This is a chance to meet the steering committee, other people and groups involved in putting the conference together and fellow newcomers. The opening reception is in the same building immediately after this.
