| Description: | Many campuses maintain computer labs within residences. Increases in personal computer ownership by students and the realities of institutional budgets are pushing the traditional computer lab model toward obsolescence. However the need for technology-enhanced study spaces remains. At Stanford, Residential Computing is working with residents and partners in Housing and Residential Education on a number of projects and an overall strategy to help ensure that residential study spaces support students’ technology use. We will discuss reasons students choose to work in labs, features that distinguish a lab from a learning space, incremental enhancements that can be effective, and approaches to assessing learning spaces. |
