| Description: | We have developed a small Linux image that boots up via PXE and mounts its root directory over NFS. Initially, we used this to automate the block-level imaging we do on our Dell hardware. We then extended this environment to include an X Server and Firefox, and used the resulting kiosk-type machines as release stations for our home-grown print solution. We are now looking to use a variation of these images for a number of kiosks in the libraries around campus. These kiosks are currently running on older, out-of-warranty hardware that we hope to delay replacing. I will discuss the details of our implementations and how they had to change as we extended the capabilities of the environment. |
