| Description: | This year Stanford University Student Computing rolled out approximately 450 iMacs running both Mac OS X and Windows XP. In our distributed environment, this required the development of a number of new management systems in order to automate remote deployment of the images and control the boot process in such a way that users were given reasonable access to both operating systems. In particular, we developed a NetBoot environment for running imaging processes and created an EFI Shell environment that we installed on each machine to help manage the boot process. These systems work in concert with a system of scripts on our imaging server to orchestrate the management of these machines. |
