Call for Nominations

General Information

The following 5 Board positions are open for nominations:

  • Director of Symposium Management
  • Director of Communications
  • Director of Member and Volunteer Relations
  • Vice President
  • President Elect

The election will be online, but you need to register to vote by July 16, 2010 at http://resnetsymposium.org/vote

Application Process

Applications will be accepted through July 30, 2010. Applicants for any open positions will be required to submit four documents: 1) resume, 2) letter of intention, stating the position you are running for and why, as well as your qualifications, 3) a brief statement (1 paragraph) that will be your public statement for membership election, and 4) a letter of institutional support from your supervisor regarding your participation on the Board of Directors. Documents should be sent via email to 2010-nominations-<at>-resnetsymposium.org. The Nominations Committee will review all applications and compose the slate of candidates for election.


Director of Symposium Management

Duties

The Director of Symposium Management shall be a voting member of the Board. This representative is responsible for oversight of the management of the symposium. The Director of the Symposium Management is responsible for leading the host selection process. This person would work closely with the Symposium Finance committee, the host committee and the program committee and report back to the board on significant events and planning for the annual symposium. This person is empowered to make decisions on behalf of the Board in all non-financial matters related to the annual symposium.

  • Program Committee Chair – Works collaboratively with the Director of Symposium Management and the Host Committee chair to assure a high quality symposium. Recruits program committee members/volunteers, solicits the specific program for the annual symposium, and coordinates the programmatic details of the annual symposium. Traditionally works closely with an Assistant Program chair.
  • Host Committee Chair – Works collaboratively with the Director of Symposium Management and the Program Committee chair to assure a quality event. This chair would be a representative from the host school and serves as a liaison between the host school and ResNet Inc. on all contractual and financial matters pertaining to the symposium. The host committee may be composed of employees and volunteers from the host institution and ResNet membership.
  • Symposium Planning Committee - The committee meets with and reports to the Director of Symposium Management to assure a quality event. It is composed of representation from the program committee, past and current host institutions.

Qualifications

  • Belief in the ResNet Symposium's mission, methods, principles, and structure
  • Active participation on at least one Symposium committee (program, host, planning)
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Experience with conference and/or events management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct teams


Director of Communications

Duties

The Director of Communications shall be a voting member of the board. This representative will be responsible for the collection and dissemination of information pertaining to the ResNet organization in the form of emails and newsletters throughout the year. This representative will provide guidance to a committee of volunteers to garner writers for newsletters and communiqué as needed. The Director of Communications shall be responsible for the production of the Annual Report of the Corporation.

Qualifications

  • Belief in the ResNet Symposium's mission, methods, principles, and structure
  • Demonstrated success in communication (ask for samples of previous work)
  • Demonstrated success in managing brand messaging and leading communications
  • Ability to enhance the organization’s image
  • Ability to craft messages and communicate them to a broad audience
  • Ability to work productively with colleagues in communication strategies
  • Ability to produce social media communication
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Direct sub-committees pertaining to ResNet communications


Director of Member and Volunteer Relations

Duties

The Director of Member and Volunteer Relations shall be a voting member of the board. This representative is responsible for reaching out to the membership to recruit membership participation and coordinating the introductions to Board members, committees and subcommittees. The Director of Member and Volunteer Relations will also be the agent of the Board dedicated to soliciting feedback and ideas from the general membership of the organization. This position will also coordinate the activities surrounding the Senti Merriman Scholarship and the solicitation of membership for the Nominations Committee.

Qualifications

  • Belief in the ResNet Symposium's mission, methods, principles, and structure
  • Ability to recruit and organize volunteers from within the membership for various committees and projects
  • Ability to work with the RARG to survey the membership for feedback and ideas on the organization
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills


President Elect and Vice President (both are part of the 3-year presidential track)

Duties

Vice President - The Vice President shall be an officer and voting member of the Board of Directors, which manages the affairs of the corporation, and as such, may exercise all the powers of the corporation. The vice president shall have and may exercise all the powers and duties of the president during the absence of the president and President Elect. The Vice President shall be elected by popular vote of the membership with the understanding that they will serve in the first year as Vice President, the second year as President Elect, and in their final year as President of the Board of Directors, provided that they remain members in good standing.


Duties of the Vice President (Year One of Three-Year Presidential Track)

a. Reviews official corporation policies annually and accepts primary responsibility for revision of any documents with respect to corporation policies (e.g. bylaws, charter, etc.)

b. Works with the President Elect

c. Works in tandem with the Director of External Relations to serve as an advocate for the organization with external partners

d. Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President and President Elect

e. May represent the organization at various conference and partnership meetings and events


President Elect - The President Elect shall be an officer and voting member of the Board of Directors, which manages the affairs of the corporation, and as such, may exercise all the powers of the corporation. The president elect shall have and may exercise all the powers and duties of the President during the absence of the President. The President Elect serves in the second year of the presidential track, having been elected by popular vote as Vice President, provided that they remain members in good standing.


Duties of the President Elect (Year Two of Three-Year Presidential Track)

a. Orients the Vice President

b. Directs the Strategic Planning process

c. Coordinates the orientation for incoming board members

d. Works with the President

e. President Elect shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President

f. Serves on the Board Finance Committee

g. Provides leadership to the Director of Symposium Management with respect to the oversight of the management of the symposium

h. May represent the organization at various conference and partnership meetings and events


President - The President shall be an officer and voting member of the Board of Directors, which manages the affairs of the corporation, and as such, may exercise all the powers of the corporation. The president shall be the chief executive officer and signatory of the corporation and, subject to the direction of the Directors, shall have general charge and supervision of the affairs of the corporation, shall see that orders and resolutions of the Directors are carried into effect, and shall make all decisions and perform all acts necessary to the conduct of the corporation between meetings of the Directors. The president shall preside at all meetings of the members and at all meetings of the Directors. The President serves in the third year of the presidential track, having been elected by popular vote as Vice President, provided that they remain members in good standing.


Duties of the President (Year Three of Three-Year Presidential Track)

a. Orients the President Elect

b. Champions the core values of the ResNet organization

c. Provides leadership and direction to the organization's activities d. Presides over members' meetings, generally convened at annual Symposium

e. Prepares agendas and chairs the Board of Directors meetings

f. May represent the organization various conference and partnership meetings and events

g. Serves as official representative to external partners

h. Provides leadership and direction to the Nominations Committee

i. Makes all Board appointments with the approval of the Board of Directors

  • Participation in ResNet Annual Symposium
  • Ability to lead regular meetings of the ResNet Board of Directors
  • Ability to serve as a mentor to the President Elect
  • Ability to stay well informed on technology issues affecting the higher education community
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated public speaking ability
  • Demonstrated desire to further the goals of the ResNet Organization
